GROUP NOTICES20th October 2008: SCAMS We are all aware of the endless “junk mail” that lands on our doorsteps every day, plus the unsolicited telephone calls, often from people that we have great difficulty in understanding anyway. Apart from the annoying intrusion into our lives, it can also have dire consequences mentally and financially to the point that some people have not only used up their life savings but also lost their homes as a result of fraudulent promises of riches. To try and help our members to avoid falling into this trap I have compiled a list of useful numbers and websites to get you started (if you haven’t done so yet) and a brochure from Trading Standards will be on display at the meetings detailing the pitfalls. www.consumnerdirect.gov.uk - tell them if you think you’ve been scammed. 08454 04 05 06 For a free leaflet from Trading Standards call 0800 389 3158 www.thinkjessica.com is A MUST to view as it tells you how one OAP lost over £50,000.00 through these scams, and her daughter has started a campaign to put a stop to the “scammers”. 11th July 2008: Over 50's Keep Fit Class: -New members will be very welcome at the Over 50's Keep Fit Class run by Jean Rogers, 9.45am Tuesdays at the Scouts Hall, Marple. Computer Literacy Class: - This class will commence on 15th September at Ludworth School. Please contact Eileen Crowder for more details. Dining Club: Jul 31st -Lunch at The Sycamore, Birch Vale organised by Jenny & George Summers. Oct 9th -Lunch at The Windmill, Adlington, organised by Jean & Eddie Howells. Nov 20th -Evening Meal at the Bridge Hotel, Prestbury organised by Eileen & Alf Crowder. Dec 5th -Christmas Lunch at Hazel Grove Golf Club. We will be entertained by a Barbershop Quartet. |
